On Saturday 30th August 2025, Market Drayton came alive with colour, creativity, and community spirit as the town hosted the Artisan Trail. The Make It Market Drayton team set off to explore, map in hand, meeting talented local artists and makers along the way. Here’s a snapshot of our journey through the trail:

Starting at the Market Hall

We began at the bustling Market Hall, where we picked up our Trail guides and were instantly surrounded by creativity.

  • Sarah was busy shaping gingerbread men with Powertex, a unique craft material that gives fabric a sculptural form.

  • Nearby, Lucy offered visitors the chance to try her spinning wheel—a mesmerising process to watch (and even better to try).

  • Sara looked after the Creative Drayton stall, where shoppers could buy locally made gifts, including her beautiful range of earrings and glassware.

Next Stop: The Library

Our trail continued at Market Drayton Library, where we met Lauren, a new member of Creative Drayton. Her bright and colourful gifts made from polymer clay were a joy to see. We also admired the paintings of Yvonne, whose work captures the beauty of everyday life.

Coffee Break at Jones

By this point, a little refreshment was in order. At Jones Coffee Shop, we tucked into a toasted teacake and coffee while enjoying the artwork of Lynne on display around the café.

Framing and Fine Art

Recharged, we headed to Glyn’s Framing, where Glyn himself gave us a warm welcome and plenty of stories about the many works of art on display.

Healing Arts No. 5

Next came a visit to Jeni at Healing Arts No. 5. Her gallery space offered an inspiring mix of creativity and calm, with incredible artwork to admire.

A World of Fantasy with Olga

We then met Olga, an illustrator originally from Russia, whose love of fantasy shone through her work. From dragons to Harry Potter, her creations were full of magic and imagination.

The Potting Shed Pause

At The Potting Shed, we caught up with artist Tania, who was literally painting the breakfasts as they were being served! We couldn’t resist stopping for a quick bite to eat while soaking in her artistic energy.

A Special Souvenir

Our final stop was with Denise, whose artwork ranged from expressive paintings to stunning silver jewellery. Among her pieces, we found a very special keepsake—a locally made silver gingerbread man pendant, the perfect reminder of a day spent celebrating Market Drayton’s talent.

A Day to Remember

The Artisan Trail wasn’t just about viewing art—it was about meeting the makers, sharing stories, and discovering the depth of creativity in our town. From gingerbread men to dragons, teacakes to silver pendants, it was a journey that celebrated everything that makes Market Drayton unique. It takes place every year on the bank holiday weekend so make sure it’s in your diary for 2026!
