More than 20 volunteers came together in Market Drayton on Saturday 28th March to take part in a community litter pick organised by Make it Market Drayton, helping to tidy streets, green spaces and public areas across the town.
Local residents were joined by Town and Shropshire councillors for the two-hour clean-up session, which ran from 10am to 12 noon. Volunteers covered a wide area including Cheshire Street, Stafford Street, the town park, the leisure centre, skate park, car parks, bus stops and surrounding roads.
By the end of the morning, more than 20 bags of rubbish had been collected, making a visible difference to the town.
Among those taking part was Harriet, one of the youngest volunteers, who joined the litter pick as part of working towards her Brownie badge—an excellent example of young people getting involved and giving back.
At Make it Market Drayton, we believe these events are about more than just clearing litter. They are a chance for people to take pride in where they live, meet others, and enjoy some fresh air and exercise.
We would encourage everyone to help keep Market Drayton looking its best by using the bins provided and disposing of waste responsibly. Whether it’s coffee cups, food packaging or cigarette ends, small actions can make a big difference. Recycling wherever possible is also encouraged.
Groups or individuals who would like to organise their own litter pick are welcome to get involved. Equipment can be provided by Market Drayton Town Council—just get in touch to arrange this.
Following the success of the March event, our next community litter pick will take place on Saturday 13th June from 1pm to 3pm, after our June community event. We would love more people to join us.
