If the words “I can’t sing” have always stopped you joining a choir, a new group being planned just outside Market Drayton could have your name on it.

The new Flat Pack Choir is hoping to launch at Adderley Village Hall in November, with a rather refreshing idea behind it – you really don’t have to be a good singer to join.

There are no auditions, you don’t need to be able to read music and nobody is going to judge your singing voice.

Instead, it’s about getting together, enjoying some music, having a laugh and meeting other people.

And with Adderley only a few miles from Market Drayton, it could also be a good excuse to make a morning of it.

Tuesday mornings at Adderley Village Hall

The Flat Pack Choir is planned for Tuesday mornings from 10am until 11.30am at Adderley Village Hall.

Sessions will be led by experienced choir leader Hannah Grace, who will make sure everyone feels comfortable and able to join in – including those who are convinced they can’t sing!

Each rehearsal will cost £6, with refreshments included.

The organisers are currently gauging interest and hope to hold some launch sessions during November 2026.

Where is Adderley?

Adderley is a small village just a few miles north of Market Drayton on the A529 towards Audlem.

That makes it easy to combine a choir session with a trip into Market Drayton before heading home.

And Tuesday is actually quite a nice day to do it. While it isn’t one of Market Drayton’s main market days, the town centre shops, cafés and other businesses are open and it’s generally a little quieter than a busy Wednesday.

Make a morning of it in Market Drayton

With the choir finishing at 11.30am, you could be in Market Drayton in time for lunch.

Meet your new choir friends for a coffee, stay for something to eat or have a wander around the shops.

There are plenty of independent businesses to discover alongside familiar high-street names, and it’s worth exploring Cheshire Street, High Street, Queen Street and the streets around the Buttercross rather than simply driving through town.

You could stop for lunch at somewhere such as the Buttercross Tearooms, The Hideout or Festival Drayton Centre, or pick something up from one of the town’s food businesses to take away.

Stay a little longer

There’s no need to head straight home after lunch either.

Take a stroll through Town Park or head down to the Shropshire Union Canal for a walk along the towpath.

Have a rummage around Market Drayton’s charity shops, browse the independents or simply find somewhere for a cuppa and catch up with the people you’ve met that morning.

If you’ve travelled some distance to try the choir, turning it into a few hours out makes the journey much more worthwhile – and gives you the chance to discover a bit more of Market Drayton at the same time.

Fancy giving the Flat Pack Choir a go?

You don’t need any previous experience and you certainly don’t need to think of yourself as a singer.

The organisers are currently putting together a list of people interested in the November launch sessions.
