Ye Olde Pubs (and the Ones Still Going!)
Step back in time and discover the hidden history of our town’s lost watering holes.
Join us for a fascinating guided walk around the town centre as we uncover the stories behind former inns, taverns and public houses that once served generations of local people. From coaching inns and alehouses to long-forgotten boozers, we’ll explore the sites of as many former pubs as we can find.
Of course, no pub walk would be complete without visiting a few that have stood the test of time. Along the route we’ll call into five of the town’s surviving pubs for refreshments and a chance to compare today’s pub culture with the town’s rich drinking heritage.
The walk will take approximately three hours and includes stops at several local pubs where participants can sample a range of beers and enjoy the atmosphere of some of the town’s remaining public houses.
Whether you’re a history enthusiast, pub lover, or simply curious about the town’s past, this relaxed walk offers plenty of stories, local knowledge and good company.
