Cricket, music, great food and a warm Market Drayton welcome are all part of Super Eights 2026, returning on Sunday 28 June for a day of sporting action, community spirit and family-friendly entertainment.
Held at Market Drayton Community Amateur Sports Club on Betton Road, the annual tournament has become one of the highlights of the local cricket calendar. Now celebrating its tenth year, Super Eights was established to help raise funds for the club, supporting the ever-increasing costs of maintaining the grounds, machinery and facilities that keep grassroots cricket thriving.
Teams from across the area – representing local pubs, businesses, groups of friends and, this year, one extended family – will battle it out in a fast-paced version of the game that’s designed to be as entertaining for spectators as it is for players. Although one team has had to withdraw at the last minute, the competition still promises a full day of friendly rivalry and plenty of memorable moments.
Super Eights also has its own unique rules. Any player who hits a six scores the runs but must retire immediately, encouraging clever batting rather than big hitting. There is even talk of a thrilling “Super Over”, where every run scored counts double, adding another twist to the day’s action.
The cricket is only part of the attraction. Visitors can enjoy a barbecue, refreshments and music throughout the day, creating a relaxed atmosphere where families, friends and supporters can settle in and enjoy a summer’s day by the boundary.
Play gets underway at 10.30am, with matches continuing throughout the day before the presentations are expected to take place at around 7.30pm.
Super Eights is also a great excuse to spend time in Market Drayton. Before or after the cricket, explore the town’s independent shops, enjoy a coffee or lunch in one of its cafés, discover its rich history and heritage, or take a stroll around one of Shropshire’s most welcoming market towns.
