here was a fantastic turnout for The Great Market Drayton Gingerbread Trail during half term, with families from across the area taking up the challenge of tracking down the town’s mischievous Gingerbread Man.

The adventure began with a mystery. Market Drayton’s beloved Gingerbread Man had legged it from the Town Hall and made off with a whole box of Billington’s famous gingerbread biscuits. Armed with clues and plenty of determination, families set off to follow his crumb trail through the town centre to see if they could catch him.

Starting at the Town Hall, participants scanned QR codes and followed a series of clues that led them from one location to the next. As they searched for the runaway Gingerbread Man, families explored Market Drayton, discovered local businesses and learned more about the town’s rich history and heritage.

The trail was about much more than simply finding clues. Along the way, visitors learned about important landmarks, including the historic Buttercross, which has stood proudly at the heart of Market Drayton for centuries. Families also visited a variety of local businesses and attractions, helping them discover new places and learn more about what makes the town unique.

One particularly popular stop was The Fields Kitchen, where visitors had the chance to sample Billington’s famous Market Drayton Gingerbread. For many families, it was a delicious introduction to one of the town’s most famous traditions and a reminder of why Market Drayton is known as the home of gingerbread.

Children eagerly followed the clues, determined to prove that they could catch the Gingerbread Man. After plenty of searching, many successfully tracked him down and were rewarded with free gingerbread sweets for their efforts.

It was wonderful to see so many families exploring the town centre, supporting local businesses and enjoying a free activity together during the school holidays. The trail brought visitors into Market Drayton, encouraged people to spend time discovering the town and showcased some of the fantastic businesses, attractions and heritage that can be found here.

The event was organised by Make It Market Drayton as part of ongoing efforts to encourage more people to visit the town and celebrate its unique gingerbread heritage. Judging by the smiles on children’s faces and the number of families taking part, the trail was certainly a recipe for success.
