What a great day it was in Market Drayton on Saturday 2nd May as Family Fest 2026, organised by JDL Mini Markets & Events, brought the town to life — and with the sun out all day, it made it even more special.
There really was just about everything going on, and all for free, which made it even better to see so many people out enjoying Market Drayton.
Stalls lined the streets with plenty to tempt visitors, from delicious cheeses and the town’s famous gingerbread cakes to toys and games for children, bringing lots of smiles (and a few treats being taken home too!).
The community hub was busy throughout the day, with a tombola raising funds for groups including the Girl Guides and more, showing just how strong the community spirit is in Market Drayton.
There was plenty of fun for all ages. Live entertainment kept the atmosphere going, Morris dancers added a traditional touch, and circus games kept children (and adults!) entertained. The owls and lizards were a real talking point, giving people something a little different to enjoy.
Alongside all of this, the indoor market was open and busy, while the Buttercross became a great spot for families enjoying a round of crazy golf.
And of course, the Gingerbread Man was out and about in Market Drayton, stopping for photos and bringing plenty of smiles. Take a look at the photos — you’re never too young or too old to have your photo taken with him.
It was fantastic to see so many people out. We spoke to locals who had come into Market Drayton for the day, holidaymakers staying in nearby glamping pods, and visitors from Loggerheads, the Wirral, Birmingham, Whitchurch and Crewe — many using the day to visit family and friends and enjoy time together.
From families with young children to teenagers and older people, there really was something for everyone. It was great to see Market Drayton so busy, full of life and full of people enjoying themselves.

Our next community event in Market Drayton is on Saturday 13th June, supporting the monthly artisan market. However, you don’t need to wait until then — we hear the Gingerbread Man will be back in town during half term, so keep an eye out as you may have to go and find him…
