Frightfully good films and magical moments

Festival Drayton Centre

There’s a little magic happening at Festival Drayton Centre this half term, with family films and live entertainment to enjoy.

On Friday 23 October, There’s a Monster in Your Show brings Tom Fletcher’s much-loved characters to the stage, with performances at 2pm and 4pm.

Then on Tuesday 27 October at 2pm, Magic & Marvels promises an afternoon of illusions, circus skills, juggling and magical entertainment.

There are also family films, including Coyote vs. Acme on Monday 26 October and Shaun the Sheep: The Beast of Mossy Bottom on Thursday 29 October.

It’s a great option for families planning a visit, particularly when the autumn weather is a little too frightful for outdoor adventures.

Pumpkin spice and everything nice

There are more creative activities to enjoy around half term.

The Make it Market Drayton What’s On calendar includes No Mess Pumpkin Games and Activities from 28 October, along with Halloween Paint & Pour at Peony & Tonic on Wednesday 28 October.

These offer another way to get into the Halloween spirit, with something a little different from the traditional trick-or-treat celebrations.

Check the individual event listings for times, prices, age suitability and booking information.

Something wicked this way comes at Fordhall

For families who enjoy exploring the outdoors, Fordhall Organic Farm has some seasonal adventures waiting just outside Market Drayton.

On Thursday 29 October, children aged 6–13 can take part in Wild in the Woods, with den building, outdoor games, natural crafts and woodland exploration.

Then, on Halloween itself, Saturday 31 October from 6pm to 9pm, Fordhall is hosting its Samhain Celebrations.

Inspired by the ancient festival marking the transition from summer into winter, the evening includes folklore, mask making, seasonal food and activities around the farm.

Both activities require advance booking.

Fordhall is also worth visiting for its walking trails, farm animals, farm shop and café.

A spellbinding selection of autumn adventures

There are more reasons to explore the area around Market Drayton during October half term.

Hawkstone Park Follies is hosting a Halloween Trail from 23 to 31 October, with spooky clues to discover among its caves, woodland paths and historic landscape.

Dorothy Clive Garden is also celebrating autumn with a Pumpkin Trail on 24 and 25 October.

Closer to town, The Grove School and Sixth Form is hosting the Market Drayton Schools Calendar Art Exhibition from 28 to 31 October, with free entry and painting workshops on selected days.

These activities provide even more ways to turn a visit into a full day out.

Trick or treat yourself to a little shopping

Halloween isn’t just about collecting sweets. It’s also the perfect excuse to explore Market Drayton’s independent shops.

Take a wander through the town centre and discover gift shops, boutiques, homeware businesses and specialist retailers.

You might find a Halloween decoration, a little gift, something for the home or even make a start on your Christmas shopping.

Wednesday 28 October is traditional market day, while the Friday Indoor Market on 30 October provides another opportunity to browse stalls and discover local traders.

The town-centre trick-or-treat event on Saturday 31 October is also a wonderful opportunity to discover shops you may not have visited before.

Behind every shopfront is a local business with its own story, and spending a little time exploring is part of what makes a visit to Market Drayton special.

No tricks, just delicious treats!

All those Halloween adventures are bound to make little monsters hungry.

Fortunately, Market Drayton has plenty of places to stop for a bite to eat.

Warm up with a hot chocolate, enjoy a family lunch, treat yourself to a slice of cake or find a cosy pub for a meal.

There are independent cafés, pubs, bakeries and eateries around the town, making it easy to fit food and refreshments into your visit.

And, of course, Market Drayton has a particularly sweet claim to fame.

Gingerbread!

Our town has a long history associated with gingerbread, and a visit is a good opportunity to discover more about this local tradition.

After all, Halloween is the perfect time for a little gingerbread treat.

Take a walk on the spooky side

If you need to escape the ghosts and ghouls for a little while, Market Drayton has some lovely places to enjoy an autumn walk.

The Town Park offers open space for families to explore, while the Shropshire Union Canal provides a peaceful route alongside the water.

Watch the narrowboats, admire the autumn colours and enjoy a little fresh air.

The historic town centre is also worth exploring on foot, with buildings including the Buttercross reflecting Market Drayton’s long history as a market town.

It’s an opportunity to slow down, explore somewhere different and discover a side of Market Drayton you may not have seen before.

No broomstick? No problem!

Getting to Market Drayton is easier than you might think, even without a magical mode of transport.

No bones about it, make a day of Market Drayton!

On Halloween Saturday, families could begin with the free party at Market Drayton Library, stop for lunch, explore the independent shops, take part in the town-centre trick or treating and finish with the children’s disco at The Clive & Coffyne.

Or perhaps plan a visit earlier in half term, with a family film, a market visit, a canal walk and something delicious to eat.

However you choose to spend your time, there’s plenty to discover in and around our market town.

So witch way are you heading this Halloween? We hope it’s Market Drayton!
