Visitors to Market Drayton can now find dog-friendly businesses more easily than ever, thanks to a new initiative from Make it Market Drayton.
Dog-friendly window stickers have been delivered to businesses across the town by Dolly the Therapy Dog and her owner Lisa Savill from Flourish Education and Wellbeing, alongside Market Drayton Mayor Cllr Tim Manton.
The idea came about after visitors arriving from the Shropshire Union Canal and surrounding walking routes regularly told local businesses and volunteers that they weren’t always sure which cafés, pubs, shops and venues welcomed dogs.
To make life easier for visitors and their four-legged companions, participating businesses are now proudly displaying a dog-friendly sticker in their windows, helping people quickly identify places where dogs are welcome.
The response from businesses has been overwhelming.
Make it Market Drayton was delighted by the number of businesses keen to take part, highlighting just how welcoming the town is to visitors travelling with their pets.
Market Drayton is a popular destination for canal boat visitors, walkers, cyclists and day-trippers exploring North Shropshire. Many people visit with their dogs and want to enjoy the town’s independent shops, cafés and pubs without having to wonder whether their furry friend can come along too.
Now, a quick glance at a window sticker is all it takes to know where both visitors and their pets will receive a warm welcome.
Dolly the Therapy Dog, who has become a familiar and much-loved face at community events across Market Drayton, joined the team as stickers were delivered throughout the town centre. Alongside Lisa Savill, Dolly regularly supports wellbeing activities and community events, helping to bring smiles to residents and visitors alike.
Mayor Cllr Tim Manton said initiatives such as the dog-friendly scheme help strengthen Market Drayton’s reputation as a welcoming and vibrant market town while supporting local businesses.
The scheme is another example of how businesses, volunteers and community organisations are working together to enhance the visitor experience and showcase everything Market Drayton has to offer.
Whether you’re stopping off from the canal, enjoying a walk through the beautiful North Shropshire countryside or planning a day out with family and friends, Market Drayton offers plenty of opportunities to explore, shop, eat and relax with your four-legged companion by your side.
